I would have expected Media Player Classic to handle playback of Blu-Ray
discs in the latest incarnation, but it simply doesn't do it, even with the
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack download of the latest version. I'm disappointed.
MPC doesn't even recognize a Blu-Ray disk in the drive, while AnyDVD HD does.

Thus is my dillemma: I'm looking for a quality freeware Blu-Ray software player
for my Windows XP system. I just want to watch Blu-Ray rentals on my PC, and
don't care much about the rest. The software/driver disc included with the new
LG Blu-Ray burner/drive doesn't even include a BD player, which I find to be
unacceptable and rather shortsighted on behalf of LG Electronics. I have also
followed the questionnaire from the LG website, indicating my disappointment
in their seeming inability to provide solutions.

Therefore, I pose the question:
Are there any freeware solutions for viewing Blu-Ray content on a Widows XP system?
If so, what are your suggestions?
Also,
I have a NERO version which recognizes Blu-Ray, but it can't write to its Image Drive.
What can I use to write an ISO or other image to my hard drive?
I'm thinking of using SlySoft's image drive instead of NERO for this, but I simply
don't know what the result might be.

I just got a LG BD player/burner and it does include a player, Powerdvd. Did your LG come with a disc ? Install the software.

AnyDVD HD. Ya, you just want to "play" DVD's ;-)a

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I feel like a fool now.
I only saw a DVD player in the list; didn't think it included Blu-Ray per the description.
Works a charm, though not as simple or bloat-free as MPC.

Yeah, since I don't have a television.
Actually, AnyDVD and NERO are purchases of mine from a few years back.
Why? What are you implying, Bohdan? ;)

AnyDVD HD decrypts and removes HDCP from Blu-ray discs, thus you can copy the files to your hard drive for playback with any number of apps that can handle m2ts files.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Yes, I know about this. Such is why I purchased AnyDVD years ago.
I''ve got the AnyDVD purchase on my side, while the whole playing of Blu-Ray
has had me stumped. As it is, Bohdan's suggestion of installing the Blu-Ray
player is very appropriate. I can now watch the Blu-Ray titles, instead of looking
for a freeware player.

I'll look for ways to make copies of Blu-Ray disks later.

Yes, I know about this. Such is why I purchased AnyDVD years ago.

AnyDVD and AnyDVD HD are two different products, the latter of which rips Blu-ray discs and is more expensive (last time I checked).

And the difference is that I made a purchase of the HD version years ago,
before SlySoft made the differentiation between yearly 'subscriber' accounts
and the current subscription accounts they now offer.
I've got the full HD version, and I purchased it a few years ago.
Legitimately.
