I've seen this brought up on another forum before. It's interesting to see how people moved through their various camera bodies over years of photography (or to see how they clung to certain ones). Feel free to give an explanation of why you moved from body to body.

I'll start for reference:

Oct 07-Nov 10: Canon XT
May 09-Dec 10: Canon 40D
Dec 10-Present: Canon 5D

I bought my XT because I had a cousin who had gotten into photography. The control of his SLR was really interesting to me so I started reading into it. A few months later (and some paper route money) and I bought my first camera! I then bought my 40D with some graduation money because I couldn't listen. I had been told glass before bodies over and over but really wanted some of the flashy features on the 40D compared to my XT. I decided I wanted to switch to full frame when my shooting interests changed. I realized I had a lot of really cute nephews and cousins and thought I'd start shooting them. After I switched from sports to portraits, going to full frame just seemed natural and I'm so glad I did. Being a poor college student though, I had to get rid of my other bodies to fund the 5D.

So that's mine. What's your story? (Either short or long)

Nov 2010 to Present: canon 7D
As soon as the 5DmrkIII is available Ill be adding that to my 7D, then just have 2 bodies.

Here is mine:

2004 Oct - 2006 Nov Original Rebel (300D), sold unexpectedly on eBay

2006 Nov - now, 30D, got it after 300D was sold, shutter button went out on 2007 Dec, Canon fixed it under warranty, kept until now for backup. It is being under utilized, but used market price is too low to let this fantastic body go.

2007 July - June 2009, bought because Sear price mistake as backup, sold due to under utilized after getting 5Dc

2007 Dec - 2008 Aug, 40D, bought when 30D went to Canon for shutter button. Wasn't seeing much difference from 30D, sold after 30D returned from Canon

2008 June - now, 5Dc, I bought it because I realized I like wide angle, I shoot mostly people, 5Dc is really a great body.

2009 Dec - now, 7D, bought it because I think this is the real APS-C upgrade since 30D, I was NOT dissappointed.

For Christmas 2008 I got a brand new 1Ds Mark III and stuck with it. Might change if/when a new 1Ds Mark IV comes out.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Me:
2007- XTi (<-- Learned that glass is greater than bodies although im kinda wanting to change it up a bit)

My progression:

Aug 1997 - Nikon N6006 acquired from my dad
Nov 1999 - Nikon Pronea S which laid to waste soon after college due to terrible APS film format
Jul 2003 - Sony Cybershot DSC-P7 in order to finally go digital
Sep 2007 - 40D (new)
Nov 2008 - 50D (used) because the 40D was stolen
Oct 2010 - 7D (used) because wanted just a little more in the ISO and found someone willing to trade for the 50D

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Dec 2009 - 500D my first one and the reason i started my interest in photography

Jan 2010 - got the nikon D90 because of the ergonomics and of its bigger body
Returned the 500D to the dealer

March 2010 - got back to canon and i bought the 7D and sold the D90

Jan 2011 - bought my 5d2 because of the IQ and change of shooting interest

Feb 2011 - sold my 7d because it's barely been used since i got the 5d2

Well that's my camera body history :-)

Present Gear: 7D "gripped (sold)" / 5D MKII "gripped" / 24-70 2.8L / 70-200 2.8L / 17-40 f4 L / "nifty fifty" / 580EX II

D60 (sold, for some reason I thought the 20D would produce better pictures - it didn't)
20D
20D (sold - didn't need two backup bodies)
1D Mk III
10d (converted to IR, probably should sell it)
1D MK II (converted to IR)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", 1D MK II (broken), and an M5, along with a M6 destined for 720nm
TF posting: here :-)
