Which is the best scanner to scan medium fomat film?

I am looking for the best scanner for scanning medium format film. What do you use?

I use the Nikon 9000ED for scanning all of my medium format (6x7) films and transparencies. This isn't manufactured by Nikon anymore but there are lots to be found online. I have no complaints about it.

Have a look at the epson v750. Although its a flatbed scanner I use it to scan 6x17 large format transperancies for my commercial Panorama workand Its that good that when I show people comparisons of scans between an imacon scanner costing 10 times and my v750 they cannot tell the difference!!!.

What you're looking for is dMax. The range that the scanner will capture. Res's are all up there but and medium format is a decent size. Remember optical res is all that matters. The smaller number given is the optical res, I believe vertical (??) and the other is interpolated from 1/2 that.

I have a few year old Epson 4990 with 3.9 dMax and losts of res. It's amazing. There are surely newer ones out there -- in fact Epson has one that scans 2 lasers at the same time, different angles. But again dMAX is Key. Some of the dust removal stuff is wonderful.

The best is probably one of the Imacon units. I saw one used in good condition for $7500 recently on another forum, if you're interested.

Next step down would be the Nikon unit mentioned above, which can usually be found used for $2500-3000.

And the next step down from there would be the Epson 750. If you go for one of these then I strongly recommend getting a film holder with glass from betterimaging.com
