The Phoenix-Gateway Airport held an "Aviation Day" on March 12th and while it really wasn't an "Airshow" per se, there were good opportunities to shoot arrivals and departures.

Lot of rotary-wing assets in attendance:

USMC AH-1Z Viper

Thanks Peter...

Makes a very unique sound. Almost like a (heavy) cat purring instead of the old two-bladed Whop, Whop, Whop, Whop, Whop...

Jay gotta love those cobras.

When I was in HMM 165 we had CH-46s, CH-53s, Hueys and Cobras. It was a composite squadron at the time. Home port was Subic Bay. Got to front seat once (in a Cobra) and all I can say is WOW. I was a CH-46 crew chief but had good friends that were plane capts on Cobras. Got up a bit in Hueys and CH-53s. Noth'n like a hover lover.... Great photos Jay...

They did eventually but they went off 30C and turned out to the east pretty quickly. I got one good belly against the Superstitions and that's about it. Lots of other good opportunities at Willie though.
