I'm going to be trading my 85L for another members 70-200 2.8 IS L plus cash on his side. What's the safest way for the both of us to trade lenses? Is there anything we can do through paypal?

The safest way to trade? Meet in person and go from there. Short of that, make sure you have legit contact information....address, phone...the whole nine yards. You can do the cash part of the deal through paypal, but that doesn't cover the bulk of the trade.

If you can't meet in person check the trader's post history. I'd be very leery of a mail trade with someone who isn't established here. Someone who regularly contributes is much less likely to be a flake and by regularly contributes I don't mean 'me too' one or two word posts.

we came to a solution- he buys my 85L in cash via paypal, then i use the remaining money to purchase his 70-200. :)

Sorry I didn't see this last week, as it would have been my suggestion. Essentially a mutual purchase agreement, making sure to take into account the overage.
