That image above, the bottom 2 channel setup isn't really necessary. If you place the remote trigger in the hot shoe and connect it to the remote shutter input you can remote shutter which triggers the flash which triggers the initial one on the hot shoe with triggers the remotes at the lights. You'd only have to have it on 1 channel and only need 4 transceivers.

revisiting this.. no way to use popup flash and remote?

I just tried with Cactus V5's for the first scenario and pop-up flash. It worked! :)Someone with RF-603's can chime in/try it out.

yeah i was trying it on some beer.. seems that the beer hit in quick (8.5%) and i didnt get much done..

what i was trying to do (i said remote now that i read it.. not what i meant.. didnt want remote trigger)...

since i only have 1 flash.. was trying to use flash in 603 in stand on side.... then wanted popup flash for more light... so straight on with popup and side flash with off camera flash..

problem i had was you need to put the 603 in the hot shoe.... then flash wont come up... guess i need a few more flashes and/or soft box.....

i am soooo envious of people that can take pics of say a glass of wine and have no shadows.... i draped a white blanket over our sliding glass doors and stretched it out to the table.. but no matter how i took the pics.. always had a shadow.... guessing ALOT more light is needed...

There is a switch under the spring plate in the hotshoe. When that is depressed the popup is disabled. These switches have a tendency to get stuck once in a while. So if you have been using something in the hotshoe and then later with the shoe empty, the popup will not popup, the switch is stuck.

No they dont, they have a hotshoe underneath with all the ttl pins intact.

You need a pinching cold shoe on your umbrella adapter now.

When I use pinching cold shoe umbrella adapters, I have place some PVC insulating tape on the umbrella adapter as I have heard it is not a good idea to short out the pins on the 603's

The 603's are a great bit of for the price

I would only trust a coldshoe with a cut away channel. My type H umbrella adapters come with these.

I recently purchased the YN RF-603 wireless triggers, still waiting on my order (eBay). My second purchase for my start-up strobist kit after purchasing the speedlight YN 460 II (x2)

Thanks for the diagram and feeddback, I think I have a good buy.

LIke OMG!!! I need another set too!!!! lol...

no seriously though. I need another set but even at less than $50 the wife is watching my eBay/shopping like a hawk. I gotta figure something out so I can take my 2nd flash out of slave mode. They really should sell these things in 3 packs.. would solve a lot of headache.

yup thanks that helps ALOT!!!!!!!!

now how did you find that?!?!?!?1 I even hit the end of the internet... google images ran out on me!!!!!!!!!!!!

and yes it is working great.. now i just have to figure out something to do with the one laying on the table... would have been nicer as a passthrough on the hotshoe...
but i get it now...
pics in post 1 will be up in 2 minutes

RF-602s work the same way. The one you have laying on the table, I just let dangle. They're light enough that it shouldn't be a problem to just let them hang when the camera is on a tripod. You could tie them to a tripod leg with a velcro strip, I suppose.

for those w/ the 603s, do you need to mount it on the hotshoe to use it as a wireless shutter release or do you leave it dangling?

mine does not work unless i have it mounted on the hotshoe for some reason. i've tried several times, switching the remotes, and still it will only work on the hotshoe.

also, i mounted the flash on top of the 603s hotshoe, so once i trigger the shutter remotely, the flash would go off as well. it does not seem to be firing in synch though. the flash fires a split second later, causing no light to get into the shot. only when i set the shutter to 2second or 10second timer, does the flash fire in synch when i use the remote.

also, does depressing halfway autofocus for you? mine will only focus when using Automatic mode, M mode won't focus when half depressing the remote.

appreciate any help

(tried fresh batteries)

I'm having the same issue's with doing the "hand hold flash trigger" scenario described above. The sync seems to be off.

The shutter release issue is probably because you're using back button focus
