I am looking to get a shutter wireless release for my 50d. I have seen there are a bunch of generics out there. Who has experience with any of these. I like the ones that will autofocus and has a 2 second pause. I do some studio work and would be nice to have a trigger release. Also do some nature stuff also.

Didn't want to spend a ton on this. Please let me know if you all have experience. Thanks!

look into the poverty wizards on e-bay - (yongnuo I think). I got a set of 3 remote flash triggers and a transmitter for about $60. One of the remotes can go on the camera with a little cable (included) and you use the transmitter for the wireless remote. They have different arrangements for different amounts of money.

if you set the camera to use the 2 sec. timer, it'll have a 2 second delay when you use the remote.

I got mine off of Amazon.com for $5.00. (1 cent plus $4.99 shipping) It has worked great for me.

Got a link you'd be willing to share? I can't seem to find them by searching for either name.

I bought this one last week off eBay.. $19 bucks (shipping included) from Hong Kong.

It hasn't arrived yet, so I have NO idea how good it is.. But if it doesn't work well, or if it doesn't arrive at all, it's no big loss :)

I had a Yongnuo(sp?) that I bought on Ebay and another brand I don't remember the name for about $15 to $20 each but by the time I paid shipping they were about $30 or a little more. I had to wait a couple of weeks to receive them but they worked well. The first one I lost and the second one was stolen but I found a Pearstone at B&H for $38.50 and bought it. It works just as well as the ones shipped from China and though I paid a little more for it I had it in about a week.

Note that the 50D doesn't support Canon's cheap RC-6 remote. I use it with the 7D, and it's very handy, when you aren't too far from the camera.

After trying a few I've settled on this one. I like it because it has an internal aerial (a weak point in many remotes), uses AAA batteries and it isn't camera specific i.e. the lead disconnects from the receiver and can be replaced with another for a different camera). It can also do the delay shooting that you require.

Did you want an LCD on your wireless remote to see what you are shooting? Obviously this will cost a bit more, $300. Review and links here:

It works fine and comes with the plugs for your camera, which you will need to specify. Note that Canon cameras in Live View mode cannot trigger AF with shutter half press. While in Live View they will only AF with back button control, so remotes like this one do not have access to AF during Live View, only when Live View is off. Then one can see the shot on the remote LCD during image review.

I use the same. Got it at Frys for $30 bucks. Sounds like there are cheaper alternatives out there but I've only used the Vivitar one and it works swell. Has the 2 second delay snaps that you ask of as well.

If Magic Lantern is available on the 50d, they you can just use that for free wireless shutter.

When enabled, you wave your hand past the "face" sensor under the viewfinder and it triggers the shutter w/o touching the camera. You can set it for near or far distance.

No bragging list - I just rent whatever the job requires.
