I want to use my Sekonic light meter to trigger my PCB CST Cybersync transmitter on the camera hotshoe. The CST should then trigger the camera and the CSRB+'s receivers on the Alien Bee strobes.

My guess is I need to do one of the following:

1) Connect a Pocket Wizard transmitter to the camera's hotshoe. Then connect a CST Sybersync to the PW. The use the Sekonic light meter to trigger the PW, which will in turn trigger the CST which will in turn trigger the CSRB+ receivers.

2 Connect a Pocket Wizard transmitter to the camera's side control panel using an RA-N3 adapter. Then connect a CST sybersync to the camera's hotshoe. Then use the Sekonic light meter to trigger the PW. The camera will then trigger the CST which will in turn trigger the CSRB's

Am I missing something?

The only way to trigger a camera is by connecting to the remote shutter port on the side of the camera. So your option 2 is the closest to that arrangement.

According to the PW site, "If you are using a Sekonic Meter that incorporates a transmitter to trigger flashes and a FlexTT5 as a receiver, be sure to set the FlexTT5 to receive a Standard PocketWizard signal. You can use the method above if a Standard PocketWizard radio is being used as a transmitter. If you are using a MiniTT1 or another FlexTT5 as a transmitter, use the PocketWizard Utility to set the FlexTT5 to receive a Standard PocketWizard signal as shown in "Using the PocketWizard Utility".

OK I'm a bit confused are you trying to set up a remote trigger for your camera or are you just trying to get you lightmeter to trigger the strobes for a reading? Pocket wizards and Cybersyncs are not compatible.

Why sweat this contorted gear setup?

The Sekonic meters have a "wait for flash" mode (almost all competent meters have this mode). Set you meter to that mode.

Then just position the meter in the place you want to meter and hit the test button on your CyberSyc transmitter. The CyberSync transmitter can even be on your camera that is hanging from you neck strap.

It is that easy.

Enjoy! Lon
