Canon, Adorama, B&H, etc. Make sure it's actually refurbished and not just used. It's much easier to get a solid mack/square warranty if it's not labeled "used" on the receipt.

Best deal would be through the CLP program for refurbished cameras.

I picked up a refurb 40D from Adorama.com two years ago and it is still perfect! Not a spot on it and came with only 53 clicks on it too. Check what they got, inventory fluctuates!

I bought my 1D Mark IV refurbed from Adorama, because they offer a year warranty unlike B&H who only offer 30 or 60 days I believe.

And with the CLP you can get an extended warranty from Mack for around $80

but some folks say Mack warranty is almost worthless. Worth poking around the POTN for further on that.

Take a listen to the TWIP interview for 1/4/2011, interview with Thomas Hawk. He talks about how he got a Mack 3 year extended warranty for his 5D and they replaced it with what appeared to be a new camera. His estimation is that he took about 400,000 - 500,000 photos and his camera and it wouldn't even stay powered anymore. (41:50) But I guess YMMV

BTW, Thomas Hawk is a Bay Area photographer that has a goal of publishing one million images before he dies. He uploads 50 images per day to his flickr. Shoots almost everyday. Takes trips and comes back with up to 14,000 images. Pretty interesting imo.

Well, I stand corrected!

I just posted that to represent a successful example. But I don't know all the details of his situation. Every sittuation is different.

I think one of the main issues people have with warranties is that they spend a lot, and they never use it. I guess that's a good thing though.

If / when I use the CLP, I plan to get a Mack 3 year deal. But i'll research more into it before dropping any money. I haven't looked into it much. ;)

I've bought refurbs through Canon Loyalty and Adorama. Adorama's refurbs come with a 1 year warranty, whereas Canon's are only 90 days.

I would recommend both as great sources for refurb gear. Canon's Loyalty Program *might* be a little cheaper than Adorama's prices, but then factor in what an extended warranty may cost. you might need to do a bit of research to find what's the best value for you.

I would add that I think Adorama has better customer support than Canon's Loyalty Program, and Helen is a great liason between Adorama and the customer. she's helped plenty of us on the forum over the years.
