I was planning on upgrading my camera body in the next year, but I am tempted to buy one now due to this issue. Canon 5DII [] Canon 85 1.8 [] Canon 50mm 1.8 [] YN-465 [] www.500px.com/robcoombs

On one hand, some dslr/lens factories have been closed, at least temporarily, which impacts the supply market. But on the other, the exchange rate of the yen against the dollar is also falling. I wonder if folks will go ahead and buy new cameras and equipment while they are still available. Fortunately, I don't need anything right now and I am an amateur. But professionals must be a bit nervous and I would imagine news agencies are stockpiling cameras, media cards and lenses as fast as they can. It may be months before the factories are open again and who knows when Japan will have full power back?

Neither Canon nor Nikon would want to be seen as capitalizing on a bad situation and someone will have to blink first. If you look at any catastrophe in the world you always see price hikes on the short term but these are generally for more essential services. My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I was waiting to see if the prices would go back down after the "rebate" is over, but I'm worried that the current state in Japan may most definitely affect the prices. -Dave
