Hey guys,

I'm not going to get into specs and quality and performance and blah blah blah. I just have a simple problem and need a simple answer.

I'm in the process of buying yet another camera bag because my most recent one was purchased prior to my new gripped 5dII (Burton Resolution Pack). It was way too much room for my gripped xsi, but the 5dII is significantly larger as you all know. The problem i have with my current bag is that the camera pouch section isnt deep enough to house the 5dII gripped.

I am currently looking into a new bag (the Burton F-Stop) and have been unable to find anyone using this with a gripped 5dII. I did find someone using it with a gripped 7D so here is my question.

What is the height of the 7D gripped?

Also if anyone can help me out and just post up the height of their gripped 5dII i would appreciate it. I can measure when I get home, But i'd like to have the bag ordered by this morning while i'm at work

Thanks in advance guys.

These two cameras are virtually identical in size. The style of quick detach plate or L plate that you attach will probably make a bigger difference.

the only spec I'm fully concerned with right now is if you were to rest the gripped camera on itself and measure from the surface its resting on to the top of the hotshoe, what that number is. I'm not sure if the grips are sized differently etc.. i dont care about width or anything like that, just need to know if the bag im looking into will be deep enough to fit it with some room.

I haven't got both cameras with me as I am away from home tonight but from memory they are almost identical. If there is any difference it really is just a few millimetres. Will a couple of mm really make a difference?

The 5D2 is 4mm taller (4.5" vs 4.3")

thats what i was asking, if they were identical, i didnt know... im just trying to find a new bag that will fit a gripped 5dii but the only review i found on it that someone had was a gripped 7d so i wanted to make sure the gripped 5dii wasnt significantly larger..

i know they are roughly the same size stock.. i'm asking for the GRIPPED... the grips change the size...

i found my answer through other channels though... thanks anyways, i guess this question was harder than i thought...

So was a gripped 7D 4mm smaller than the 5D2 gripped? Or did the grip even up the overall height?

The assumption is that they are very close in size, and the Canon grips are very close in size as well (since they use the same battery and all), so if you know the size of your 5D that is gripped, the 7D will be very close to that, by 1/2 inch or so maybe.

I am betting it is around 157mm, so around 6.2"?

Big_g posted it up as well, I had a friend do a quick back to back comparison when he got home and they are just about the same size. The 5dII is slightly taller but as pointed out its a negligible difference.

Thanks for your help guys i appreciate it

So you had the correct answer within 3 minutes but felt the need to post "this question was harder than i thought..."

that was more in response to someone posting up product specs of each body... i tried to do a little research before posting up... anyone can look up specs of the bodies, i couldnt find specs on the grips... so yes.. apparently it was harder than i thought because people didn't read my question and just gave me stock specs...

not trying to be rude, i just thought i explained myself in the original question fairly clearly...

But I think the point is, again...

1) You have a gripped 5D2
2) The size specs of the body alone for both the 5D2 and 7D were given, showing that the 5D2 is 4mm taller
3) The grips are nearly identical

Therefore, logically, you would expect that the 7D with grip is either a tad smaller than your 5D2 gripped or the same exact size.

In any case, you now have your answer, so did you end up with a new bag? I am looking at the Tamrac series that hold 2 DSLRs, not sure which I like most though. :(

The I wasn't sure how identical the grips were in height, that's why i was asking... no worries..

i just sold my crumpler bag and i'm trying to decide which bag to go with... im thinking maybe one of the kata bags but im nervous to make the jump to another bag without test fitting my gear in person first...

I have 2 Kata bags today, which are you looking for? I have the H16 and the R102. I actually need to sell the H16, I think, and move to a bag that can hold 2 DSLRs, I am thinking about one of the Tamracs. Right now I am using the Canon DG-200 and am able to stuff the 1D4 + lens, the 5D2 + lens, a 70-200 2.8 IS, and a 580 EXII int the main compartment.

I was thinking either the Kata Bug 205 or the BumbleeBee... I like the inside design of the Kata Bags but i really don't like the strap systems. They don't seem like they would be very comfortable and don't really appeal to me aesthetically
