Shooting RAW. What are the benefits?

Looks like the photographer boosted the midtone contrast. You can emulate that using the Unsharp Mask function in DPP or Photoshop.

BTW, if you're shooting a lot of fast action sports pictures, many sports photographers still prefer to shoot bursts of JPGs rather than raw.

You can only learn what works best for you by experimenting.

One benefit of shooting RAW:
When you take a shot that makes you say, "How did that happen?!!" like this one, it takes maybe a minute to make it presentable. I think somebody who knows what he's doing could actually make it good!

And have you ever seen a horse that big? His head reaches from her shoulders to her knees!

Are you saying you posted some other photographer's photo? Do you have written permission from the photographer to do so?

Written Permission. LOL. I wish ppl just take it easy and not so tight a$$ about things. Just a sample picture. Yes, he did a nono. Not everyone read 100 page rules before jumping into their first post. No photographer will die or go hungry tonight. not the end of the world so relax and just help someone out. If you dont like it? move on. GEEZ

I'm not sure what you are criticizing here -- the term "written permission" when it could have just been "permission"?

Or, are you are criticizing the fact that someone would inform the OP that posting an image they didn't own is against the forum rules?

The rules on this forum are actually a lot shorter and a lot laid back than on many forums. Basically they say "Don't steal" and "be nice." (And it's amazing how many people need to be told "be nice!")
