Okay I'm doing weddings now. I have 4 coming up this year and done 3 already. two of them I done using only my canon 24-70 2.8. I plan on getting a sigma 85 1.4 . Should I jump on it now? I really want this lens or should I just buy a used 70-200 2.8 IS

I had the 70-200 2.8 is II before and I enjoyed it. I played with the 85 1.2 and felt in love with the lens so much I want the cheaper sigma 1.4

I think for weddings you will get better use out of the 70-200. The 85 is sexy but you must think, what do you NEED to get the job done, not really what do you WANT. Of course, the 85 can get the job done as well but the 70-200 offers more versatility while also covering the 85mm range.

Falling in love with 1 lens, and settling for a different one... I dunno... wouldn't that be like marrying the one you didn't fall in love with?

The 70-200mm is much more useful. For indoors I could go for the 24-70mm.

IMO, you can do a lot with the 70-200 at weddings...and if you're going to continue to shoot weddings at some point you will NEED a 70-200. You may WANT an 85 but get what you need for now and upgrade when you can. If I were you, get the 85 1.8 and a 70-200 and you're good to go.

Why would you buy the third lens around the same focal distance and completely skip wide and long ?

How's he skipping wide? The 24-70L is plenty wide on FF. If you're shooting weddings just go with the 70-200 mkii. It makes life a lot easier.. If you control the pace then primes are great (why I switched) but if you don't and the pace of the wedding controls you then the 70-200 will definitely be more versatile.
