Advice on getting on sidelines for college?

I'm currently a student at Towson University and I've been going to all of the home lacrosse games. I've been stuck in the stands having to use my 2x TC which kicks my ass.
I would love to get on the field to build up my portfolio.

So far I've tried emailing the athletics department in which I get no response. I've tried calling and not being able to get ahold of anyone that has the authority to grant such passes.

So I was wondering if anyone has any experience of actually getting on the field in the same situation as me? And some advice on what to say to convince them to allow me on the field?!

You'll want to post this in the 'talking about sports 'forum.' You can also do some thread searches here too. Most people will suggest to try and get a position with the University paper so that you could get a credential to be on the field, or something to that effect. Good luck!

I'd go there in person. Much tougher to blow you off that way, plus it shows you are somewhat serious in what you are trying to do.

Sorry to say this, Towson University LaCrosse isn't exactly "big time".... I highly doubt they even give out offical side line passes...just walk down there like you belong....lol...works more times than you'd think..

Yeah that's what my friend Matt told me. He's the stock photographer for syracuse.. but good to know.

I know they aren't the greatest but they're good. They're in D1 playing the top teams in the east coast(Syracuse, Hopkins, Maryland, etc.)

But trust me haha, I've tried to walk down but each time I've been denied by huge black security dudes!

Could an admin possible move this to the talk about sports forum?! PLEASE!

I use to shoot for for my school..did it more for the experience then pay but doing that, got me access to pretty much any school event via media pass.

For our home football games, it was played at the Lincoln Financial Field so when I picked up that assignment, I was able to go on the sidelines and photograph it.

As others has said, you can just go down to the field, introduce yourself to the coach and let him know what's up.

OR

You can go work for your university's newspaper and pick up sporting assignments.

I literally just applied to the newspaper! The crazy thing is, the pictures they have in the paper, aren't anywhere near as good as the shots I've been getting from the stands. But yeah they do have a photographer so I'm not sure how this is gonna go. =/
All I can do is hope for the best I guess!

Most schools have a Sports Information Director (SID) within the Athletic Department that coordinates much of the logistics concerning the sporting events. I'd see if you can find out who the SID is and inquire about getting sideline access. At a smaller school - this person would typically have enough clearance to simply get you on the sidelines.

All I can do is hope for the best I guess!

At my school, they send out assignments at the beginning of the week and it's on a first come, first serve basis. So if you're on the same system...be sure to check your e-mails very often lol

+1 on talking to the SID. Also, as a former college coach, if you approach the coach or one of his staff with some of your work to make your appeal, that could get you an in. Last rec would be to go through a friend on the team (you do have a friend on the team, right ) and get an introduction that way.

great advice guys.. i really appreciate it. i don't know anyone on the team though =/ and i guess ill try and get ahold of the coach..

Check with the yearbook; they should have press passes to everything.
