Help troubleshooting Ranger RX pack

Hi everyone,

I have a Ranger RX pack which has suddenly stopped firing on the A channel. I've tested it with two different heads which both fire when attached to the B channel, but neither fires when attached to A. The pack is relatively new still and both channels worked last time I used it. I tried cleaning out the A connection with an air blower. Any other suggestions I might try? Need to use it for a shoot this Sunday unfortunately.

Thanks,
Rand

Does the modeling light work on Channel A?

Does Channel A not work even when a head is attached to both ports?

Thanks for the suggestion. Channel A doesn't work even when a head is attached to both ports, but both heads work with Channel B. Didn't think to try testing the modeling lamp, I'll try it tonight.

Just tested it and the modeling lamp works when I connect a head to Channel A, so something is getting through. When I test fire the pack with Channel A, the LED blinks and the pack beeps, as if it fired a shot, there's just no light from the strobe. I know the problem is not with the head however as both heads fire fine on the B channel, and neither one works on the A channel.

Any additional suggestions, tips, or workarounds heartily welcomed.

Thanks!

Compare the connector pins for channel A and B on the pack. See if one of the pins pushed back into the connector.

Thanks for the suggestion! I checked both connectors with a 10x loupe and none of the pins appear to be pushed back or damaged in any way.

I found the pack has a modeling lamp fuse and a battery charger fuse, but can't find a fuse associated with firing from either channel.

My shoot is tomorrow so I'm considering taking out the battery and removing the cover from the A connector to try to clean it out. It is secured by only four screws, but am somewhat reluctant. Has anyone tried removing the plastic connectors to clean them out?

Unless you have experience servicing electronic devices and working with high voltage, I caution you not to open up the pack. You might be in for a real shock...literally.

If the pack is new like you said I would take it back to shop and ask for replacement.
I would not try to open it as it will void the warranty. If 300+Ws is enough, use B channel for this shoot

Thanks everyone. We ended up having to shoot indoors because of the rain so was able to survive using a single light on the B channel. I've only had occasion to use the pack a few times but it's past the 30 day return period so I'm going to just send it in for repair.
