She lived in a mobile home so no ladder was needed.
However, we did elope... sort of....
After getting married, we each lived at our respective parents' house for two weeks while we searched for an apartment.
Then she ran away with me.
To this day, we still seem to put the cart before the horse.

Did the parents know you were married during those two weeks before finding the apartment?

Why do so many marriages begin with some form of a guy with a sketchy, perhaps bordering on legally questionable plan involving late night abductions of a person they intend to spend the remainder of their lives with?

I suspect it's more common in fiction than in reality, where there aren't really "so many."

I tend to agree with you. Nobody, save one, I know ever eloped. They were in it for the party and gifts as well. And Mr. Mossberg's services were never needed.

I know several people who eloped. My cousin, my son, but then he got married in a church and had a great party. It's a military thing.

Good point. I never considered the military. They would face time issues. I like the idea of marry now, party later, too.

They did not. Not until the day we move out.

So you separated the day you married... For two weeks, and have been together for 44 years now. That's dedication, man! Good job, sir! ;-)a

I was 19 and in college when you first separated. I was also driving a brand new 1979 Pontiac Sunbird, black hatchback with the spoiler. That was my first brand new car. A friend of mine did lettering on vehicles and really tricked it out. Then one day at a stoplight, the engine caught fire due to a defect and ended my car. I bought a 1980 Camaro which I kept for years. Loved that car, too. Ahhh, good times, good times.

Dang, I had a 1978 Sunbird with the V6. Little pocket rocket, great in snow. Loved that car.

Loved mine too until it flamed up. I had the 4 cylinder which had some spunk to it. Unfortunately they were just discovering the issue with the fuel line/filter problem. My Camaro turned out to be an awesome ride. Kept it for years.

My first car. Bought it for $100, put over 100k miles on it. Rebuilt the engine a couple times, thanx Warshawsky, tons of VW parts for practically nothing. Had it for 3 years and sold it for $100 to a friend and he turned it into a dune buggy.

Well, we did spend our marriage night in a hotel. You know... priorities.
But yes, after that night, we separated for two weeks. Now, 44 years as a couple, and soon to be 43 years married.
Thank you. It's been quite a job but somebody had to do it. :p

... I was 19 and in college when you first separated.

I was 20 at the time and a draftsman for an aerospace company near NASA.

Aaah, our old cars, like our old flames, will never die.

My first was a used '72 Olds Delta 88. Must have had hell driven out of it, because a few months after acquiring, it blew a head gasket.
Had the engine replaced with some experimental engine I don't remember now. It blew a rod a few months later.
No, I didn't drive it crazy with either engine as I knew they were fragile.
But that was one smooth riding car.

I still have trouble with used cars and try to avoid them when possible.

What do you mean, it was a great car. Got me my first real job as a VW mechanic at our local Texaco. I saw the car after he finished it. It looked great.

The Olds 88 was my dad's goto car. He had several over the years. They were boat like, but I agree, the ride was so smooth.

I have never purchased a new car for myself. My wife has, but mine have always been used or program cars. Right now I'm driving an 20 year old Econoline van. I'll drive it until it dies and get another used. Thinking a F150. I need the hauling ability.
