The Regatta is the week long boat races on the Detroit River. Belle Isle? You know, the Thunderboats. The Roostertail.

Yep, did Gratoit as well.

Lived on Woodward, right next to Mickey Shorr's for a few years. Drag racing off the front porch.

Gratoit, how could I forget Gratoit Auto Supply? And Linda Vaughn.

And we used to get our hotrod parts from Gapp and Roush.

And Faygo. In the old wooden crates. Yep, good times indeed.

Ah, the boat races! I forgot about those. I'd see the footage of them flipping on the river on Channel 7 with Bill Bonds.
We spent a lot of money at Gratiot Auto Supply. I went to Belle Isle a total of once. I grew up in Sterling Heights, 18 and VanDyke area, and when I got my license, my dad forbade me from going south of 8 Mile. That all came a little later.

I had a buddy who's dad had a warehouse at 8 mile and Woodward. Across from the post office.

We had full reign of the top floor. Oh the parties we had in that place. We threw a battle of the bands 60 keg bash up there when I moved to Colorado. Some kind of going away party.

Its all long gone by now.

when I think of Detroit I think of Alice Cooper, and tires. Tires being taken off your car at intersections. Not sure why I still have that as a memory...

Incidentally, if you like Cooper - look for the documentary "Super Duper Alice Cooper"

Repressed memory...Stroh's beer will cause that. Also Vernors, although I can now buy it here in Iowa.
