Why is it a triumph to post something so uninspiring that a whole day passes before anyone responds to it? I don't understand this game.

When I was in grade school, that was the big playground game along with 4-square, dodge ball, bounce or fly. We never had organized sports, kids just played.

Yep, I remember 4-square and dodge ball. Don't know bounce or fly, but I do remember the neighborhood kids getting together for a few baseball games AFTER a rain. Baseball in the mud is FUN, but then again, that was before we were old enough to hurt ourselves seriously.

Has anyone else noticed kids don't climb trees anymore? I remember you could drive down almost any street and see at least one in a tree. Funny now that I think about it.

I liked dodge ball. Not familiar with 4-square or bounce or fly.

Horrible at baseball, but I loved climbing trees, and making forts in them. I'm not sure why kids don't climb trees anymore. Probably too obese from sitting inside with a controller in their hands all summer. One thing I NEVER heard was the "get outside and play an hour a day!" I went out in the morning and came home at dusk. I was never in the house when I was a kid.

Bounce or fly was a good game if you had just a couple of friends. One batter tosses the ball up and sends it out to the fielders. Pop ups preferred. Batter gets three ground balls and they are out. Fielders get two points for catching the ball on the fly and one point for catching it with one bounce. First fielder to 10 gets to bat.

Now there's a system! We just argued over who bats next. lol.

My dad worked all day including Saturdays so we barely ever saw him. In the summer, when the sun came up, we were outside and had to be home for dinner then stay in the immediate neighborhood until dark. My mom had no idea where we were or what we were doing. In the evenings, all the adults were over at the Dulaks house talking, smoking and drinking as they were in the middle of the block and we ran willy-nilly all over the place.

As to the climbing of trees, its hard to do with a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, safety vest, steel toe boots, gloves, and full leathers kids got to wear so the kid is safe.

I was always outside, too. At dinner time my dad would stick his head out the window and let out a whistle that could be heard for probably a half mile. Time to immediately stop whatever I was doing and run home. Like you, safety gear wasn't even thought of for bikes, skateboards, or anything else. And we drank out of hoses. ;-)a

We had foursquare in school. I kind of remember that a diagram was painted on the blacktop for it, but I now have no idea how it was played. The same with dodgeball.
