Macs used 1.8 for years, then finally in OSX 10.6 they came to their senses and defaulted to 2.2
In OSX 10.5 gamma 2.2 was recommended, yet 1.8 was default 
When using colormanaged software, the difference should not be visible, but use 2.2 anyhow.

It never seems to be the same to times in a row.
