Hi Guys.
Stroma Lighthouse on the voyage from Scottish mainland to Orkney.
One shot - two crops.
I didn't know which one to post for best effect - any ideas?

Hard to say, the third way would be a more letter box crop of #1 removing the excess sky and water but keeping the end of the headland ??

Yep! Thanks Lester, I entirely agree - try this.
Looks better already - although I say it myself!

Thanks lads, just goes to show what a difference cropping in the right format can make. I found the original file but unfortunately it didn’t have just that tiny bit of headland it could probably have done with.

I like this crop too. Just enough of it's environment to maintain perspective, while maintaining focus on the lighthouse as the subject. :-)

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

OXCARS LIGHTHOUSE, FIRTH OF FORTH

Hi Everyone.
Please don't bar me from this net but I did carefully consider if I had the nerve to post this picture on the lighthouse thread.
It was taken from Inchcolm Island in the Firth of Forth, Scotland. The initial object of the picture was the scenery with the flowers in the foreground.

Four miles out? That's gotta be some kind of record for distance from shore for a lighthouse. Thanks for sharing. :-)

Point Atkinson Lighthouse, located in lighthouse park of West Vancouver. Way back in 1792 Captain George Vancouver charted the area and named the headland, Point Atkinson. The original light house was constructed in 1874, which was later replaced by the existing in 1910. When the existing structure was built in 1910 it used a vaporized oil lamp and a Fresnel Lens, which was turned by a clock mechanism driven by a 200lb weight. This 200lb weighted mechanism needed to be wound every 2 ½ hours. Later in 1960 the oil lap and Fresnel lens were replaced by an electric light bulb. In 1994 the federal government of Canada designated the lighthouse a National Historical site. Today the lighthouse is far from its original design, it now uses a very high intensity automated solar-powered light.

I had no idea you get get to that one from that side...great park to explore, we really enjoyed our time there...as short as it was.

Dunnet Head, Scotland. Most Northerly point in the UK Mainland.
Orkney Isles are seen in the background.

An old one from 2012 visit to Bar Harbour - oddly I didn't realise at the time that this is such a popular location. Unfortunately on that trip the weather did not play ball and it was misty the whole time we were there, but I think it adds a nice ethereal effect. Acadia is my all time favourite place.
