There is a place for seaplanes on the chart, but it isn't in any airspace that would have a control tower. Image hosted by forum (952998) © Capn Jack [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. They called it 'The Pill' because it controlled all the berths in the harbour. Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Is that the one one that fell on hard times (2015), and was discontinued when the berthing rate fell dramatically due to the global recession?

How did they "carefully deconstruct" a concrete tower other than using explosives? .

I wasn't in Sydney when it was 'carefully deconstructed' but I'd assume it was dismantled in sections that were lowered by crane. Unless 87m (285 ft) is too high for cranes. I don't know enough about cranes but I reckon that would have been how it was built. The area has been developed as parkland. There seems to have been some controversy at the time over whether it should have been demolished as an ugly eyesore or retained as part of Sydney's maritime heritage and a representative example of 1960s Australian concrete brutalist architecture, and used to allow people to experience its sweeping views over Sydney harbour without having to climb the bridge. Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

avondale87 thanks for whoever started this More info Post edited over 4 years ago by avondale87. | Jan 05, 2019 03:18 | #3264 Bit different from previous posts, so trust this is all okay. Image hosted by forum (954018) © avondale87 [SHARE LINK] It is Teak and as it was placed there in early 1900 or late 1800's would have been the remains of an old wreck.THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff. There's a large hole in top part and imagine it would have been part of original construction (Knowing how well teak lasts I should have left it in place. Not sure how the metal bar I replaced it with would last in salty air!)
