Royal Terrace Pier. Gravesend. Kent. UK.

A long-shot.
Not all navigation lights are magnificent picturesque lighthouses in prominent positions.

A close-up of the light Perhaps a bit of maintenance on the tower might be in order.

Bit different but I haven't a photo. Just the design drawing.
Goose Island lighthouse. First to be started in Bass Strait, followed by Swan Island
1845 build

Here's a link to the storey
https://lighthouses.org.au/tas/goose-island-lighthouse/ (external link)

Interestingly the same design was used for Swan Island
That was the first completed of the two despite its later start.
Plans same, just name change and No 1 or No 2
https://lighthouses.org.au/tas/swan-island-lighthouse/ (external link)

I think I've a design plan for the light itself somewhere

I was part of that great organisation called PWD (Public Works Department) but never got to work on any of these. :-(

Here's the keepers house for both lighthouses

Both from State Library Archives Tasmania (permission granted with acknowledgement) so it says on their site

Thanks for supplying the info link Richard - very interesting. Can you just nip out and get an updated shot of it? Your challenge for the week.:-) It seems you lot down-under gave our poor misunderstood deportees all the good jobs.:-)
Also, thanks for the link you mailed me. Again, very interesting, I enjoyed reading it and, as usual, got hi-jacked into browsing through the sub-links.
It almost made me book a flight to see for myself :-)

So this is my first post, and honestly I'm nervous to even post as these are some of my first shots taken since I have decided to get into taking any photos with more than a smart phone. Everyone here has amazing work, and I would love feedback on these.

Nice shots Kassket.
Her is a suggestion: to make them stand out, leveling the horizon line would do it. :) Hope you don't mind.

I don't mind at all, I actually look forward to suggestions from everyone here. I'm trying to move out a bit from my other creative outlets and take up something that gets me out of the house. I love thinking about doing a shot, however there is so much to think about at this point because I'm so new I forget the simple starter things. Thanks for the comment and tip!

Glad you enjoyed it along with the diversions.
Well Ray, if you're coming you'll have to meet those same high qualifications of the early thieves, petty criminals and slovenly ladies.
(one such chap established the first post office in Australia)

Bit far to just nip out to, but I would like to visit. Heading in that region in 6 weeks.
Will see what transpires.
Well on second thought. $390 per night to stay on the island!

Nice first post, and WELCOME here! :-)
Lovely color in both. The first appears to have two Lighthouses? Are they still in service? Just wondering why they weren't lit yet?

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

They are both still in service, and a few of the shots I got I caught the light on and facing my direction. I would have really liked to add that to the photos, but I have learned absolutely zero in photoshop at this point to be able to do that yet.

Sounds like a good excuse to go out and shoot them again? ;-)a
