Was there a bunch of years ago. Fierce wind blowing along the coastline.
Didn't want to get anywhere near the cliff edge. Great scenery though.

The fog was heavy and you got wet just walking into it, but no wind thankfully.

I'm standing about 20 feet away, just to see the lighthouse and take the pictures. I'm glad that I took the 17mm on a full frame camera or I couldn't have taken these shots.

This lighthouse, located at the Race Rocks off Victoria on the Juan de Fuca Strait between Vancouver Island, Canada and the Olympic Peninsula WA, USA. It is one of the earliest lights on the west coast and was built as a kit in the UK and assembled in situ. It was designed to warn mariners of the rocks as the area was often obscured by sea mist, caused by cool air falling from the Olympics and descending onto the cool strait waters. However, mariners often complained that during the day they could not see the lighthouse to navigate, and the keeper's wife had the brainwave of painting the structure in alternating bands of black and white. Apparently impressed, the keeper got her to paint the building, while lowered from a bosun's chair!

While automated, the light and associated buildings are maintained by the Canadian Coast Guard. Landing on the rocks can be hazardous because of the colony of aggressive sea lions that have taken over and have been known to attack invading humans.
