Tronhard Goldmember More info Post edited over 2 years ago by Tronhard. | Feb 08, 2021 12:44 | #3869 This lighthouse, located at the Race Rocks off Victoria on the Juan de Fuca Strait between Vancouver Island, Canada and the Olympic Peninsula WA, USA. It is one of the earliest lights on the west coast and was built as a kit in the UK and assembled in situ. It was designed to warn mariners of the rocks as the area was often obscured by sea mist, caused by cool air falling from the Olympics and descending onto the cool strait waters. However, mariners often complained that during the day they could not see the lighthouse to navigate, and the keeper's wife had the brainwave of painting the structure in alternating bands of black and white. Apparently impressed, the keeper got her to paint the building, while lowered from a bosun's chair! Image hosted by forum (1087076) © Tronhard [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW.
