In fact, the site was deemed too dangerous to ever have anyone out there past the mid 20th century. There is a wiki page about the place if you want all the details. One interesting twist is that it became a columbarium in later years. That's another thing to maybe look up.

That's a good 4 mile walk to and from the parking lot on gravel and sand. Glad for you that you were able to shoot it.
