:(

My Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM EF is missing. Either someone stole it out of my camera bag (Why wouldn't they take the whole bag) or I missplaced it some place and forgot where in AZ. I left from AZ to Missouri last week so I can't exactly go back and retrace my steps. I will never be able to afford that kind of lens again. It was sort of a gift.... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I am sooo sad.

Did you register the lens with Canon? If so, there is the remote chance it might get back to you via the serial number & Canon. If you did not register it, best find the box or receipt and get that serial number with Canon.

I suppose the other things you could do is post the last 4 or so serial number digits on POTN and watch AZ CraigsLists. If one gets listed, make up some excuse about needing some or all the serial number because, for example, certain ones were incompatible with the model Canon you have.

Oh, that is a real shame. It's a great instrument – but it is just a piece of equipment. The skills you've picked up along the way can't be stolen, and hopefully you'll get another zoom soon (maybe not a white one). Be well.

Where were you in AZ? We have members in just about every area of the state.

Come over to the AZ POTN thread in Member Actvities and tell us when, where, etc.

If you have renter's or homeowner's insurance, call the company and explain what happened; you may be able to recover some of the cost.

I feel your pain, and then some. On a "I used to be sad that I had no shoes..." note, I had my Canon G-9 stolen from a rental car in Seattle in the parking lot of a church.

So for a moment, you are thinking "Losing a 70-200 L is a lot worse than a G-9". Well, it's not the G-9 that I care about. It was the card that was in it. I had just finished discreetly* shooting my Grandfather's funeral. Like I can reshoot that. :(

Sorry to hear the lens is gone but keep in mind, it was just a thing. There are others like it.

Rad

*Which is why I was using the G-9 and not an SLR

Hope you remember where you use it last time and found it.
I remember there's a thread before like this, missing 70-200 f/4.0L IS and he found it in the kitchen!

Come over to the AZ POTN thread in Member Actvities and tell us when, where, etc.

Review your images to see where you last used it.

...and go back to that location to inquire if someone turned in the lens. And even go to the police department, to see if someone turned in the lens. Many times, the inherent honesty and decency of people can pleasantly surprise you.
