In four and five and to a lesser extent two he stands off the bg better.
Perhaps the warm saturated bgs are jumping out in front.

The face looks overdone too me. I immediately think you have removed bags under his eye but have given him very oriental looking eyes. I understand the need to help complexion and wrinkles but here it looks like you have taken it too far.

what color is the actual background? I really like these. My best guess would be a grey background with color filters on your flash?

My backgrounds are all what they seem. I buy various colors from Calumet and Samys. I don't color my strobes as it never seems to give me the look I want.

Did you try to remove some bags under his eyes? They look too blurred right there in each shot.
