I've felt lots of bodies, most of them feel better than my own!

A friend from work just purchased a D700 and let me fiddle with it for a bit. I have to say I was nervous that I'd really like the layout versus my 5d2. After playing with it and taking a few test shots, I have to say that, in my opinion, my Canon is much better organized. So many features of the Nikon were dedicated to single-task buttons that it made me realize how much I like the 5d2's division of menu-driven and button/dial features. I don't think I need a dedicated button for mirror lock-up, but that just may be me. Also, the form factor was quite different. The Nikon was much narrower but taller, making for a 'fat' camera. With my large hands it was definitely a non-starter. The menu system was reminiscent of a computer OS, not something that was photography-cetric, but I'm not sure I can come up with more the justify that conclusion other than my initial reaction. In short, I definitely like the layout of my Canons, but of course that may simply be because that's what I'm used to.

Film, suckers.

Played with D80 one day before purchasing my T2i. Kind of missing the double wheels on Nikon ;) .

I think too many people confuse the way a Nikon feels in the hands with its ergonomics. They do fit in the hand well due to a deeper curve and their use of a nice soft outer covering. The consumer Canon's do have a hard feel to them in the hand, but the 1D series feel great.

Then there's the ergonomics, all the knobs, dials and switches they clutter the camera up with. Not to mention the messy menu system. I hate having to waste precious time staring at the body trying to find which knob or dial to change. And I really hate how they placed the front dial near the shutter button. It's just awkward to operate. Canon has done a much better job with their dial and how they've designed their menus. But, as somebody said earlier, in the end it's all about images and ergonomics is really just a matter of personal taste.

Absolutely not. The trigger is too high up on the body and the rest of the controls are screwy. Your finger should rest naturally on the trigger and on the Nikon bodies it does not.

My preference is Canon across the board. That includes ergonomics, menu system, and the look of the files. No thanks to Nikon.

Nikon does offer 51 AF points (I use only one)... ;)

I guess it's rather personal, but I went for Canon because holding a Nikon body in my hand feels akward.

The Nikon battery grips are much more ergonomic and they have the joystick on them as well.
The canon's are too square, like you have a brick attached to the bottom of the camera.

Nikon shooter for years both film and digital...I prefer the XD & XXD to Nikons equivalent and much prefer the ID series to Nikons equivalent.

I don't find them much nicer to hold than my Canon... although I guess the 7D is probably the more moulded of current Canons.

I prefer the Canon plastics, the more matt finish makes it feel a bit tougher

Nikon felt like a brick in my hands, while Canon is like a glove.

I don't care much for the feel of Nikons. Not to mention the control layout.

Honestly, the only thing that could get me away from Canon, would be Phase One. They feel fantastic and look almost as sexy as Canons.

Just tools sports fans... What should be sexy are the images who cares what tools look like. Sexy paint brushes and chisels :lol:

Cameras are a way to capture a vision not an accessory like shoes or a pair of earrings   I guess if you think of a camera like its an accessory then it shows where your priorities are.
