Do you guys reckon that I can plug my Rode Videomic into one of these guys:

and output into my Zoom H1 and control the volume / gain from there instead? The Zoom H1's pre-amps seem very noisy to me, and I'm going to buy the above headphone amplifier for my music enjoyment first.

Any comments?

I suppose you could try that. Also, I suggest looking at iBasso preamps, they make some pretty good ones. I was thinking of getting the D12 Anaconda to drive my Grados, particularly since it's also a DAC, but I really need a proper preamp/mixer right now, so I'm saving up for an SD302 or better.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

There's a local (alright, not only local, but regional) store here that always gives good promotions. My friend just made his ear sizing for some "ACS T1 custom" IEMs, and he bought them in a package with a Beyerdynamic DT880 pro and the above amp and some IEM case for 40% off the individual pricing, so he's willing to sell that amp to me for free.

I wonder how different my mic will sound with bass, though!

with bass turned up, probably like crap; also i think the mic's output volume will be far too great, plus the headphone volume output is also going to be too great. I just don't see it working too well without using lots of pads. Plus i'm not convinced the electronics in that are going to be any better than in your H1.

Probably get some negative DB cables and don't up the gain? That amp is US280+, while the H1 is a recorder with mics and all that going for US100+, i'm sure the circuitry is going to be better. At least the potentiometer will be.

sell the h1 and get an h4n, problems solved all around. :P
Seriously though, I can't find any specification sheets on the Go-Vibe Mag so I can't tell you if there will be voltage problems or not. Go-Vibe apparently doesn't even have a website...? Kinda sketchy IMO.

Regarding the bass knob though, open up your editor, put an EQ on your audio track and boost the bass, and that's what it will sound like -- I'm guessing not great.

Haha, I don't print money dude! Else I'd already have gotten the H4n + NTG-3! We can all wish, right? I always thought potentiometer circuits have more allowance for sound control compared to boosting by software so here's hoping that it won't sound bad?

Anyway, I'll still get the amps for my own listening. It's cheap compared to almost anything else that's the same quality, especially since I can get a better price from a friend.

Agreed, from what I'm reading on some hi-fi forums it's an all right headphone amp. I just don't think it would be a good mic preamp, as mic preamps and headphone amps have very different input/output voltage expectations.
