Anyone trying to counterfeit them would be on the wrong side of a lawsuit or worse pretty fast. Jon

Not in China/Thailand/other "emerging country". Some cameras, some lenses, plenty of gaffer's tape and beer.

You'd better believe they've got lawyers watching for dilution of copyright. And I know that Joby, like LensPen, lets other companies market their products under other labels. Jon

The legs straight out were very stiff but it was the coupling of the legs to the center boss than became a bit looser and sometimes with really heavy kit allowed the legs to flatten out. My advice would be try the generic if it doesn't work for you, 12 bucks is not a huge loss. Just make sure you get the right size for your equipment. If you can afford it and want the gorrilla pod design definitely go for the Gorrillapod Focus. 1Dx, 1DM4, 5DM2, 7D, EOS-M, 8-15L, 17-40L, 24 TSE II, 24-105L, 50L, 85L II, 100L, 135L, 200L f/2.8, 300L f/4, 70-200L II, 70-300L, 400Lf/5.6

Holds my 60D and any of my lens OK. I am sure that the generics are a little more of a hit or miss proposition, but worth the $15 or so in my book. 60D / Canon 24-105 F/4L IS /

Think about it, this tripod is not something you will use for a 30min long exposure or supporting a 300f/2.8. Most likely, you use it to hold a flash, or camera with normal zoom for self group pictures, so unless you really need the Joby name, the generic one should do just fine. 5Di, 5Diii, 28, 50, 85, 16-35II, 24-105, 70-200F2.8 IS
