Hi people!

Looks like I have a internship with a proffesional studio photographer coming up. I have a lack of studio knowledge and especially artificial lightning. I need a quick guide or advice on what to read and what to think of.

I do not want to look like a idiot infront of this guy and thought I'd learn as much as possible about lightning before my internship starts. This guy is at major pro level working for companies such as apple and D&G and I would really like to come out on his good side. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

What books, threads and videos should I watch/read? What techniques should I try?

/Felix

Identify the specialty of this photographer and read suitable publications...it does little good to learn about portrait lighting if the guy is a product photography specialist. I suggest Light Science and Magic as a good book that is highly applicable.

lycka till

Tack! :D

He shoots products and especially arty stuff. I am going to enroll in three years of photojournalism studies so this is really not my area.

Really hoping for a cool experience.

I am afraid that a career direction of photojournalism is not one which I recommend. My cousin has spent his life in photojournalism working for the two largest newspapers in San Francisco, and it is a frankly dying industry. The newspapers get thinner and thinner and too many people think they can go to the web and not buy newspapers, as if they think the news and photos come from the ether magically to the web.

Yeah I know, but I am trying to specialize in conflict photography. And if there is anything that sells it's war. But if I can get into product photgraphy I will definately have that as an option. I have worked a little locally with newspapers and interned with a PJ. It really is competetive.

As long as you walk in with open eyes, I wish you the best. I see too many young adults choosing to go to college with a major which has no clear cut career path...my best friend from college has a son who graduated from college 5 years ago and he is still trying to get his first permanent, full time job! At the same time, going to college is a life experience which can create more well rounded people, not necessarily a job preparation trade school.
