The 28-135mm or the 18-135mm lens? I've owned the 28-135 before and loved it, but had to sell everything when I lost my job last year. Now I'm back in the saddle and just bought a 60D body and I need a good all purpose/walk around lens and the two I mentioned are in my budget. Any thoughts?

Kodak disposable, Ansco 35mm disk, Polaroid my parents gave me. That's about all I need really.

Even though the 28-135 gets more than its share of negativity on POTN I always liked mine. Nice range for what I shot and decent IS.

I've only gave it up for a faster lens (Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 ) since it was my only lens at the time.

With that budget, a tamron 17-50 would be a better choice IQ wise.

I dunno but if you were considering the 18-135 you shoulda gotten the 60D kit with it as i believe it would have saved you some $$

Between the two, Neither, get an 18-55 and 55-250, More range, Roughly the same price

yes, if image quality is important the 18-55IS and 55-250IS combination would be a better choice over the 28-135 -

The EF-S 15-85mm IS lens is outstanding, and that is the major lens I use on my 60D. It is a bit more expensive, however.

You could buy the 18-135 now and sell it later if you are ready for upgrade. Although like Hugh said, 15-85 is nicer if you could afford it. But I voted for 18-135 instead of 28-135, because 28 at APSC body may not be wide enough.

Check out these comparisons between 28-135 and 18-135:

@50mm f/5.6: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=3&APIComp=2 (external link)

@85mm f/5.6: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=4&APIComp=1 (external link)

@135mm f/5.6: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=5&APIComp=1 (external link)

I would suggest you add about $100 more to your budget and buy a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.
