I use vegabond with strobes for outdoor portraits. Soon i'd like to use a speedlite off camera for my outdoor portraits. I've only seen the Lastolites video of the Trigrip with a speedlite attached bouncing into the trigrip. Does anyone use this setup for outdoor portraits? I am liking for some examples and opinions. I was thinking instead of bouncing the speedlite to use the Trigrip as a shoot through with HSS on my 580ex so I could have a shallow dof with using an ND filter.

Because the lastolite can serve a dual purpose. As a shoot through or a diffuser for the sun and easier portability.

How you going to attach speedlite to trigrip?

They make an arm attachment from the trigrip that extends out away from the trigrip. Then you place the speedlite at the end of the arm facing back towards to trigrip to shoot through.

That seems overly complicated when you could use a simple popup softbox made for that purpose.

Yeah I guess if you're lazy it can be overly complicated. It's no harder than popping open a softbox and attaching the speedlite to it.

I was asking for opnions for those who use that setup and examples. I wasn't looking for suggestions on other ways to use a speedlite for outdoor flash. Obviously you don't have this setup so you can exclude yourself from this thread.

I've read that the velcro doesn't last long when holding the trigrip and customers have had to find other ways to attached the trigrip.
