Upon opening some of my raw files last night, they displayed like the attached picture.

I don't know why it (Camera Raw 6.0) is highlighting areas like that, but would like it turned off. I was a bit concerned but after making adjustments and opening in Photoshop (CS5), the red and blue/purply areas aren't there.

Anyone know what setting got changed and how do I turn it off?

Simple!

You've got shadow and highlight alerts turned on in ACR!

To turn them off, look at the upper corners of your histogram and you should see a white arrow and a black arrow (mouse over them to get a "tip"). They should be surrounded by a white border indicating that they are On. Click on each one and the border/On should go away. Now you can slide your Exposure and Blacks bars all around with impunity:)!

Thanks

I figured it had to be something simple, but I sure don't remember turning it on.

You may want to turn those visual guides on now and then. They show you the pure black and pure white areas. The Exposure slider adjusts your white level and Black slider your black level. If you hold down the alt key while adjusting either of these you get yet another way of telling which areas are completely white or black.
