These look like the same lens but the price and vendors are different, why?

The ASIN numbers, what ever that is are also different

Is one gray market?

Any experience with Amazon lens purchases?

Thanks

Two different vendors with different pricing. Happens all the time. Try buying from Amazon, if possible, not one of their 3rd party vendors.

Why Does Amazon Have Two Prices?

As already pointed out, Amazon does NOT have two prices.
You've linked two different vendors with different prices,
and these vendors are not Amazon. Therefore, these third-party
vendors can ask whatever price they wish.

Look for Amazon sales, not third-party vendors or sellers.

You should also be aware that the Canon 10-22mm lens has gone up around
$100 in average price; it's selling for over US $700 now. Perhaps the same
difference between lenses, and probably reflects current pricing trends.

Thanks for the information

Yes I see that a few lens prices have gone up and probably will continue to go up. The recent price increases as well as the earthquake in Japan have made me think it would be better to buy sooner rather than later.

Bingo!

Ha what was hilarious is when I clicked the second one Amazon showed that I had bought it November of 2008 and I pulled up the order and I only paid $851 for that lens back then! Man are they RIPPING us off now! lol

Yup, prices seem to be heading up. I just picked up a 28 f/1.8, and the spread of prices on Canon Price Watch (external link) is just crazy.

Yes, it just seems odd that Amazon would have the same product for different prices. If I walked into a brick and mortar store and saw a lens for $1120 at one counter and then the same lens at a different counter for $1180 I would think it was strange. More importantly who would buy the lens with the higher price, it makes no sense.

That lens is extremely overpriced for what it is.

Really, what would you suggest instead?

If you mean what lens then my preference would favor the 17-40 f/4L but that's just my opinion and don't intend to start a debate over the two as a Search of the forum will provide quite a few threads for that.

If you really want the 10mm width, Sigma offers a variable-aperture and fixed-aperture 10-20mm zoom.
The fixed costs more than the variable, though they are just as wide as the Canon 10-22.
You should be able to find a slightly-used copy of the variable for ~$400.

These are only available for the EF-S system, however, so they are not fully compatible
with full-frame EOS cameras.

And yes, I'm glad I bought in December 2008

This probably has more to do with the Yen vs the Dollar than anything else...
