What Body and lens, nieces wedding. no flash

My Niece gets married Saturday night and I plan to take one body, one lens and no flash. Strictly shooting friends and staying out of the way. In fact not sure if she has a photographer. Full Frame 5DC with 85 1.8, 50 1.8 or 24-105.....40D 85 1.8, 50 1.8. I have no idea how dark it will be...Hotel ballroom light. Suggestions? Thanks

24-105 probably, or maybe 50 f1.8 if you like it. No flash suggests the 50.

Since you're using a full-frame camera I'd use the 85mm if you can. The 24-105 is decent but it tends to hunt for focus in low light and, with no flash-assist to help you out, you might miss a lot of shots.

I would say the 85 as well, you want to stay out of the way and the 85 will allow you to do that. that way you can still get the shots you want without being up close and personal with them.

Hotel ballroom sucks for taking photos without a flash. Why you are going without a flash is beyond me, but I would probably bring the 40d with the 24-105. Use the little pop up flash and get photos of your family and other guests.

If you are trying to take photos of the ceremony, than 5d and 85.

It depends on what you are taking photos of. If you are standing behind the pro, or taking photos during the ceremony with flash when you are not supposed to use flash...yeah, that bugs me. But if you have your camera and taking photos of your family and guests, go ahead.

Thanks, Bryan. Yea I have no need for formals etc. Just family members at the reception. As my wife has 10 brothers and sisters i'm sure a few will use the pop up through out. The more you read about what you guys go through the more I want to be not noticed in any way. I have been able to get some nice individual porttrait with the 85 1.8 in natural almost dark light. Had not thought of putting 24-105 0n the 40D. It does amuse me when I take the 5d to family function when it has no popup flash or auto settings and someone grabs the camera to take a shot.
