Hi
I got a new Yongnuo Battery SF-18 yesterday AND 12 AA rechargeable (Uniross Battery)

The problem that I have is Fully recharge then put those Batteries into the Yongnuo Battery SF-18 then plug into the Canon 580ex II then the Yongnuo Battery SF-18 red light went on for 5 sec, then blinking for 3 sec then Off.

What does that mean? if its the batteries, what should I do?

Could be the batteries, the battery pack or the flash. Easiest thing to test are the batteries - do you have anything to meter the voltage for each AA to rule out a bad cell?

Hi and cheers for the reply!

Well the batteries seems to be working as it was brand new, Test it as its fully charge..
The Battery Pack red light seems to goes off..is that normal or supports to leave it red for a long time till the batteries died?

Cheers again for the reply!

I have the same issue, Lon at Flashzebra told me to try the flash at full power in and count the recycle time between the red light on the flash then plug the pack in and try it if the recycle time does not drop significantly with the pack plugged in then the pack is not working. On my 580EX II in manual mode at 1/1 the recycle time was about 2 seconds w/ and w/o the pack. So it looks like the unit is defective. And even tried it with all new batteries in the both the flash and the pack.

Who did you buys it from? Send them an e-mail and have them replace it. I am currently waiting for Lon to get back to me about min, I bought mine about 4-6months ago and just noticed it was not not working. I thought my batteries were bad (sanyo Eneloops) but it turns out the pack is not allowing the power to get to the flash. It worked at the beginning but not now. Hope this helps

Sevan

100% defective unit.

I have several SF-18 and just a few weeks ago, one of them started to do this.

I compared my recycle times with two 580EX II's. The battery pack obviously is not working when it's blinking and goes off like that.

I bought mine from Ebay; it's only been about 2 months and they have a 1 year warranty. They are from China; but I hope they can work something out with me... I hate to send this thing all the way to China and spend a ton of time when it's only worth $60 to buy a new one.

I just purchased a $20.00 shoot battery pack off ebay and check this out, with Duracell AA's the battery pack does not work, but once i put my Sanyo Eneloops in the damn thing works!!! What the hell is that about? The Duracells are brand new and they don't work? But the trick comes once I put the Duracells in the Yognuo pack they work!!! Go Figure. I guess for $20.00 I can't really complain right? I just picked it up for a secondary pack, just encase. Looks like I need to pick up a few more Sany Eneloops for this pack. By the time you go thru 3-4 we should of just bought the Quantum packs for $467.00.

I've got the same problem with my yongnuo sf-18 - just started at my last wedding during the ceremony. I guess thats what you get for buying cheap peice of crap from china. I'm ordering another battery pack from Canon today. I've been using the cp-e4 for 3 years and havent had one problem.

I just have a quick question for all SF-18 owners. When working normally with fresh fully charged batteries, is the light supposed to stay on at all times or is it supposed to be off and only turn red when you fire the flash?

What mine does is this:
1. When I fire, the red light on the pack turns on and then off.
2. It stays off until I fire the flash again.
3. The red light only stays on for about a second or two.

I have the Nikon version which has a PC sync connector for some reason. I bought it for my Polaroid PL-135 bare bulb.
