Why ?

From your gear list, I would have asked why did you buy it in the first place.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Gearheads buy with un controllable logic and emotion.

LOL. I owned it before the other cameras. It just wasn't being used much these days - and I've blessed a friend who was looking to upgrade from a bridge camera to a DSLR for video work.

I've discovered, that owning lots of equipment isn't all it's made up to be (there's a surprise!) and now really like the idea of occasionally carrying a camera that is small and discreet.

It's always nice to have a smaller camera available, albeit the Fuji is a bit pricey it seems...just an impression.

We own the Canon D10 and the grand kids love it. We put a flotation device on it and throw it in the pool with the kids...they have a blast with it. :D

Nope. With your gearlist 7D was like toy any way. Better have real toy to enjoy, which this camera only is.

Having read as much as I can about this camera, it appeals at so many levels.

True, there is a nostalgic attraction, but the tactile functionality is a welcome change to all the menu-driven systems that most cameras have today. I like to shoot in reportage style, the discreet nature of this camera makes it ideal. I suspect you could use it absolutely anywhere, and because it looks like an amateur camera, no one will bat an eyelid.

I shall wait to see independant reports (and samples) on the low-light capability of the X100 before I finally make my mind up.

If the 7D was your only DSLR, I would have said yes, you are mad.

Eagerly awaiting your thoughts on the X100 when you get it. I'd love to have a small, pocketable (at least in a coat pocket) camera with an APS-C sensor.

well, the G12 isn't even in the same league, but why not a GF1 or NEX5 or something EVIL that's ~$500 with a lens?

yes, the x100 is VERY appealing, but they're $1200 right now and impossible to find. Even if they're amazing, they're not going to blow the NEX or MFT camera out of the water by that much IMHO, and since you don't have one of those you don't even know if this type of camera suits you?

I say that as a NEX owner who LOVES the look/idea of the X100, but I see 1200 reasons why I won't be getting one. My NEX w/ it's 16mm pancake is smaller, faster, less than half the price, and has the same sized sensor...

oh, and one last point. If I could get my hands on a X100 right now, I WOULD do it in a second, use it for a few days (to see if it's all it's cracked up to be) then sell it on ebay... They're going for ~$2500 used right now.

$2000 for an X1 and it's HIDEOUS (lens protrudes like a P&S),
I'm guessing $4500 for the cheapest used M8 + lens combo.
And $10,000 for an M9 with a lens...

Pretty clear why not Leica unless you're rich.

I would love to own a smaller camera, but not at $1200. Maybe at half the price I would consider buying it. In this price range there are the NEX cameras but don't appeal to me because of the bulkiness. Same goes for the other Gxx and Pen like cameras, they are not that pocketable. I guess I just need the S95...
