On Saturday, March 19 the Patriot Guard Riders were among over 500 motorcycles who, by the request of the family of Senior Airman Nick Alden, convened in Anderson, SC to disrupt any protests anticipated by the scum of the Westboro Baptist Church, well-known for protesting and disgracing our fallen hero's at military funerals. It was an amazing site and I was proud to be a part of it.

Here are a couple of picture. More on my flickr at: http://www.flickr.com …r/sets/72157626184295197/ (external link)

I find it abhorrent that those baptists have the impudence to protest at a fallen soldiers funeral. That is disgraceful. I'm glad you have groups of bikies over there to keep the grubs at bay. Quite often we critisize bikies for their antisocial behaviour, yet they are also amongst the most honourable and patriotic groups any country has. Good on them for showing up in force to honour a person who gave his life for other peoples freedom. I notice on your flickr site that they are from quite a diverse group of clubs as well. It is good that something like this brings them together in a common cause.

I'm Baptist and would never in my life disgrace a fallen comrade like that. I served along side my wife and feel that everyone should respect those who are willing to serve. I hate that they associate with any American based religion.

Quoted for truth. Those people are NOT baptist. They are a cult and they are wrong. They damage the "image" of Christ followers because they claim to identify with a religion. It is unfamthomable to think of doing what they do.

Agreed. I received Christ in a Baptist church and these wackos hardly represent what the Baptist church teaches.

Thanks to all for the nice comments. The diversity of people there was very impressive: young, old, civilian, servicemen, veterans, police, etc.. If you look at the photo's on my flickr site, you will see that there were bikers representing everything from Hell's Angels to Christian bike clubs. The Westboro Baptist Church, in my opinion is a scourge to all Christianity (I am Catholic) and to any organized religion. They have no right or business calling themselves Baptist or Christians because they are only "Baptist" in name, not in spirit or action. As Jasr aptly pointed out, they are better defined as a cult. They are despicable human beings. What Christian religion protests honor and does so carrying signs saying "God Hates America" or God Hate Soldiers." I do not believe that this was the message that Jesus died for or left us with.

Thanx again, Jim

I'm so glad you posted these. I'm Canadian and a history grad student. I've been researching the Westboro Baptist Church for about 6 months and have written quite a bit about them. As such, obviously the Patriot Guard Writers have come up in my research and writing as well, but it's so cool to see a soldier's funeral like this.

Thanks for sharing!

I don't even know how they can call themselves a church; it's a single family of nutjobs.

Baptists in name only, actions speak louder than words...
we both honor & respect our veterans and currently serving members within our congregation (we have veterans from WWII on up to now)...those who, without thought, step into the gap and say "not on my watch"..

people have always wanted their ears tickled....
