Hello,

My boss has recently purchased a Sony DSR 200AP which I believe has a weight of around 4.5kg. We are looking for a tripod, this camera will only be used to supply live video feeds to projection screens in conference situations. It will always be situated on a level platform and never in an outdoor environment.

Would we be able to use a Manfrotto 055XPROB? With an appropriate head? OR does it have to be one of their specific "video" tripods?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Looking at the spec of those legs, they should cope with that video camera no probs.

One thing to bear in mind which video tripods tend to have is fluid heads. All depends on the type of filming you want. If the camera is static in your conference then no real need. If you will have a camera man panning the camera to different speakers or guests then you'll want a fluid head to avoid jerky movement which looks amateurish....

That would be it exactly, but presumably it will be ok to buy a manfrotto fluid head which should be universal to the camera? Thanks for your response, it seems silly that it would not work as it is still just a tripod!

Thats kind of what I went and did, I have a 190XPROB set of of legs with a RC2 plated ball head. I got the 128RC fluid head from Manfrotto so I could avoid swapping camera mount plates.

I've been using my Vanguard Alta Pro of late. It's pretty steady for the purpose so an 055X ProB would be fine. If you're videoing conferences as Pilsburypie said earlier, it probably won't matter. I actually used the Vanguard last year ( it was it's maiden shoot ) to make some short video fillers for a family portrait shoot. DIdn't have a fluid head so I used my Giottos Pan n Tilt head. Didn't encounter any problems but I imagine if you're panning a lot, a fluid head may be a good idea.

Enjoy and good luck with your vids

I bought this tripod for $139 from Amazon.

I couldn't be happier.
