Just out of interest, does anyone know if the new MIII teleconverters are a similar shape and size to the MII? I'm considering getting some lenscoat covers, but I might well upgrade my MII 2*TC to an MIII at some point in the not too distant future and I don't want to invest in one set of coats only to need another later on.

They are both very similar but the III is slightly smaller.

Wait, what? From the images I've seen, it looks like the III has a smaller height dimension.

Sorry, I meant to say the III is slightly smaller. I'll edit my original post.

Ahh thanks for that - they do seem to be very similar, at least in height and the red dots and release switch are all in the same relative places as well. Are they also the same diameter? Far as I can see the height wouldn't be a problem for lenscoats.

According to Canon specs, they are both about 2.8" in diameter.

Here is what The-Digital-Picture.com says: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …=248&LensComp=744&Units=E (external link)

Thanks again Mike! Seems that the difference is so slight it won't show up with the lens coat fittings at all :)

From these photos, the color seems to have changed. I've read the new extenders better match the new super telephotos which are more white (blue) than the older ones which were more earthy toned. If the older extenders are mounted to the new lenses, is the color difference quite noticeable?

From another thread:

I think the change happened sometime in 2010. The newer lenses are more of a grayish white than a beige/putty white of the older lenses. You need to see them side by side to really tell.

I have a UY0500 (May 2010) 70-200mm 2.8 IS II that is the older color. I don't know if newer versions of the same lens have the newer color.

Here is the 2x III behind my 70-200mm 2.8 IS II

Even the newest 70-200mm 2.8 IS II has the "old" color.

Awesome. Thanks. Now I'm just going to have to keep both so the color matches my next big telephoto.. :D
