Be sure to watch the end where the newscrew does a slightly humorous bit.

I can imagine stuff like this happening, but this is the lowest of the low: the cameraman was apparently double-booked for the day, so he setup a series of cameras to film video in set locations... while he was off filming another wedding elsewhere.

They shouldn't worry, they'll probably be divorced in 2 years. They could make up for it by making a sex video instead

Wow. Double booking and then leaving video equipment to capture it as an automaton. Maybe a wee bit unprofessional.

...and just in case you missed how to not be a professional, more examples offered.

the suit

Good, they should go after this idiot and the judge was right! Can understand missing a moment, it may happen, you try your best to not let it happen, but to not be there at all is just horrible excuse of a so called professional.

What do you think would be the professional way to handle if you did find yourself double booked? I imagine the smart thing would be to pass one assignment on to someone else, someone who you know is good. And, of course, the assignment transfer would have to be okayed by the client.

Is it okay to get a commission from the photographer who takes over?

Then again, how exactly would one wind up double booked? Have they not heard of the invention of the day timer?

I think it has to do more with the videographer not caring about the consequences. A rational person would have called up at least one of the clients to work out an arrangement with a replacement videographer. He either thinks his clients won't take the effort to fight him, or that they're too stupid to realize they've been cheated. If you ask me, it's highly likely that he's pulled this stunt in the past, and he simply got away with it--probably because the clients didn't know who to complain to.

How the heck do you stick a camera in the grass leading to the entrance and consider that wedding-video-worthy? Isn't that just voyeur?

As much as I feel bad for the couple, if they really thought videography was so important to them, they should have hired a PROFESSIONAL. They should have asked for referrals, they should have done their homework before hiring that sketchy guy. I like it how they say "yeah we have the photos (beautiful photos by the way!) but we won't have any memories"....Lesson learnt, hopefully!
