I've just upgraded to the latest V3 of Elinchrom's EL-Skyport software and I'm *really* not happy with the appearance of the user interface. This is what V3 looks like:

PLEASE tell me there's a way to switch to the familiar "classical" EL-Skyport screen of the prior version of the software which looked like this:

That is ugly, Dave. What does v3 offer that v2 didn't do?

Near illegibility for one thing, Rob.

Is that look mimicking the look of the WiFi software that we're going to see on the iPad and iPhone? Or is it just a wacky upgrade to the PC software?

Yes, of course I knew what you meant, Rob ;)

A slightly less flippant answer would be "nothing that is of any value to me".

From Elinchrom's website:

NEW: Eye-Cell pre-flash management, only for Quadra RX
NEW: Automatic Language Detection; actually English and German are available, other languages will be prepared.
NEW: Wireless Firmware update option for Quadra RX
NEW: EL-Skyport Sync Mode NORMAL and SPEED setup for Quadra RX
NEW: Virtual Studio Mode; all settings can be stored with a sample image. The data files can be exchanged between users for training or information.

I hope I still have the V2 install package squirreled away somewhere.

Do you think that you'll warm up to the new version and perhaps in a week you'll be telling us that it's actually pretty cool?

Any chance of that? ;)

Not likely, Rob, as long as I have that screen grab of V2 to look at.

The timing on this is all very interesting.

I was prepared to buy the USB dongle within a week or so and I decided to download the software and install it the other day. It was v2 so I have that installed already and have the install package as well.

I'll probably grab the v3 but will also be prepared to step back to v2 if I don't like it.

I agree, Dave. El-Skyport V3 is very ugly. And much less intuitive than V2 although V2 wasn't all that intuitive to begin with until I was able to decipher their literal German to English translated manual.

I have yet to successfully use V3 with my strobes. Every time I try, I get so frustrated with it and just go back to V2. At this point, for my needs, V3 offers nothing that V2 does not already have.

I never knew any better until now. V3 is equally ugly on the mac.

With a bit of design effort it could be great.

I just looked at v3 on my Mac.

If it's a dog on Windows and a dog on a Mac then it's truly a dog.

Woof!

Yeah, this is one of those "what were they thinking" moments. I'll be UPGRADING to Version 2 today. "Woof" doesn't begin to cover it, Rob.
