Don't know what other people do, but, I typically set my camera in AV mode, ISO 400, exposure compensation of -1/3 stop, If the sun is higher and brighter I might use -2/3 stops. If I have my tripod with me I'll reduce the ISO to 200. Tim Kerr

I usually use f/11 and set the aperture to see shadows and highlights. I've been known to bracket my shots and blend them using Layer Masks in Photoshop. Images in the Backcountry
