This is really beautifully done Paul.

Part of its strength - IMO - is in the fact that the composition itself stands on its own without the embellishments of intense color. The dreamy foreground water is a wonderful contrasting canvas for the stark black piers, and the subtle blues are a wonderful counterpoint to the red sunset, just showing a little bit of reflection, enough to intrigue your interest.

You also didn't choose to make the setting sun intensely radioactive as some have done here. It's a good example of "less is more." Thanks for sharing

You are very welcome Paul and thank you for the kind words - I believe that quality work should be recognized and acknowledged. Our art is a journey that can improve over time if we look for opportunities, remain open to new ideas, and practice.

I do a lot of local judging and critique and sunsets are often a popular topic for their obvious beauty. They can be wonderful compositions. The thing I try to stress on people though is that the best technique you can often apply in photo shop is RESTRAINT. So often people go overboard simply because they can. We should all experiment - that's how you grow - but too many times people crank up the color saturation or the HDR effect because it's there. Now if the image gives them pleasure, I have no room criticize. By all means the photographer should gain pleasure out of what they are doing. However if they are trying to compete and improve, then they have to be aware of what they are doing when it is compared to superior work; just my .02 soapbox ;-)a - Stu
