Heya,

If it's significantly processed, it's easy to make one or the other be whatever you want it to be.

However, if it's not significantly altered, you should be able to figure it out in some instances just based on the warmth of the image (again, subject to processing). Plus if it's a popular site, cardinal direction of something or somewhere known will give it away fast. But at the end of the day, I find temperature to be the main thing all other things not considered. But, that can be processed to be one or the other.

For example, just looking at the overall temperatures of the following, it should be easy to guess which are sunsets & which are sunrises:

Google "EXIF reader" It should work if the data hasn't been stripped out & you can read the time/date.
