This is a very nice, appealing shot.

Travis, I just found a tutorial from a mate of mine in Australia and followed it on one of the images from the sunset last week. Do you like this better?

Cheers

Gary :)

Thank you very much :) I think its better with more detail in the rocks

Much better, and for me it isn't the detail in the rocks...while nice...its the intensity and vibrancy of the sky. The other version was flat, too muted for what looked like great color, it looked like a -2EV frame.

It's a lovely shot. With that Sony sensor you can easily stretch the rock shadows even further. Sony sensors are incredibly good.

Yeah, the sensor really makes you change the way you shoot...at least it did for me. If you shoot to protect the highlights, the shadows stand up to a lot of recovery.

This one is one shot from last week...the boats on the right were a little dark, but easy to recover and put the light back on them when exposing for the really intense section of the sunset on the far left.

Sunset at 14,286 ft

What a breathtaking vista.
Plenty of altitude.
Endless vista of snow capped peaks.
Beautiful image,very nice indeed.

I gather you walked there?
Probably no mean feat.

Thank you! I normally go to a more desaturated look, but felt these needed the color!!

Another from Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley...those sunsets that last for 30 minutes sure do spoil a guy...around here we are lucky if the good light lasts 5 minutes...
