I read a lot here, and do a lot of research here. There is a wealth of feedback on just about every lens, much more so that I can get from a single reviewers perspective on any of the professional review sites.

I've been agonizing since Christmas about what lenses to get, and finally decided what to replace the lenses I bought 10 years ago for my EOS Elan 7e. Those lenses worked great on my 300d, but the shutter broke on that and I replaced it with a T2i. The lenses both just always seemed a little soft after that. (The old lenses are canon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 and a canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6). I'm still pleased with the results from my original 50mm f/1.4

I finally made up my mind and purchased a Tamron (first ever non canon...) 17-50mm f/2.8and Canon 70-200 f/4 IS. They just got here this morning and I'm pleased with the overall results.

I just wanted to say thank you to all of the active posters who share their image samples, lens feedback, and personal experiences here. For those of us who just lurk, it's a great service!

Same here! I've learned so much on here in the past four months since getting my 7D. I was on a different forum when I had my XS. This forum definitely rocks! :)

Spent much of the day having fun.

My initial impression of the 70-200MM is that it's nice, but definitely not a all the time lens. The size of it is very nice, and it's very easy to work with. I need to get used to how far apart the focus ring and the zoom ring are, it feels very different than what I'm used too!

The Tamron 17-50mm is a great lens! I have the non VC/IS version because of both cost, and a lot of feedback that sharper results can be had from the Tamron. This is a great lens, at 2.8 it does well, and inside with minimal light it does well. It does great for outside, I really enjoy having a nice lens at wider end of the range, it opens up a lot of opportunities for great shots. I've never had anything less than the 28mm on my crop bodies, so never knew how much I was missing! (and how many extra steps back I was taking, and what that did to my overall framing and the DOF differences standing back creates)
