Lots of great architecture there in Galena. The town has an interesting history and now is a nice weekend getaway for folks from Chicago and the surrounding area.

Nice shots, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comments...
My folks have had a vacation house there (in "The Territory" or Eagle Ridge) for 20 + years. It's been a family tradition to do Christmas there; we've missed one Holiday there in 22 years. My daughter grew up there at Christmas, and now her son.

Finally, my Dad retired and fulfilled their dream of (retirement) moving there, now living a mile off of main street.

There's just something very cool about Christmas in that Civil War Era town. (for those unaware; 9 Yankee Generals came from there, the most famous, US Grant)

I've enjoyed visiting Galena, and enjoyed seeing your nice photos.

Okiewan,
How about a shot overlooking the town from the hill on US 20 just a few miles east of Galena?
Every time I drive through there it's a really nice view.

I know where you are talking about, close to where the road takes a curve around a hill? Sorry, didn't get one :) ... but yes, that's a good shot.

I took some from Grant Park across the river, but of course, need to spend some time removing all of the power lines that are in view.

Exactly. I guess you'll have to put it on your agenda for the next time you visit.:)

Will do... should be coverd in snow.

Here are a couple from downtown.. I went down one morning at sun-up hoping to get an empty street, no luck. These are from a typical weekend evening.
