the Canon brand sells for more than $100 vs the Vivitar, Vello and Zeikos brands...any comments on the other brands. Is the $100 difference worth buying Canon?

Thanks

Cheers,

Of the few generic battery grips I have seen, I have never been very impressed and personally have never and will more than likely never go with anything other than the genuine Canon grips. Just my two cents.

I use the zeikos grip on my Canon 500D, and I find it works brilliantly, and personally I don't see the need to get the Canon grip unless you cant live without the words "canon" on your grip :)

However, I'm not sure about grips for the higher end bodies as they're made of magnesium alloy and I don't know if they would put that in the grips too.

Bodies: Canon 500D | Canon EOS M
Lenses: Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 | Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 | EF 50mm f/1.8 II | EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 | EF-M 22mm f/2
Flashes: YN-568EX | 90EX

is your grip made of plastic? My Canon BGE6 for the 5D2 is definitely made of metal.

I believe most of the knockoffs dont feature a metal frame, I also have the BG-E7 and it shares the alloy frame found on the 7D itself. Very solid grip.

In addition to the alloy frame the other reason I chose the BG-E7 is because the finish exactly matches the 7D. Maybe it's because I'm picky but that is a big deal to me. One thing you will need to get used to on the BG-E7 is the shutter is more sensitive than the one on the body. After awhile you will get used to it but at first you may be firing off some extra shots if you are in one of the continuous modes.

5D4 w/BG-E20, 24-105 f/4L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 35 f/1.4L, 85 f/1.8, 100 f/2.8L IS Macro, Sigma 50 f/1.4
