Recently I purchased a Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 ZE after wanting one for a long time! The mount on the lens hadn't even warmed up the contacts on my camera before I ran across a Voigtlander 125mm APO-Lanthar f/2.5 Macro in Canon mount! I was kicking around how I was going to justify it when the Voigt owner told me he'd trade it for my Zeiss. Wha? For me, the opportunity to own this discontinued gem outweighed the fact that the Zeiss is readily available and easily replaceable.

So I did it. I don't know whether to be full of sorrow or joy...:(:D:lol:

Thats a good one. Only you know if you made the right call. I'd say enjoy the hell out of it and then repost ;) Congratulations BTW.

I don't know these lenses personally, but I assume you do - as you thought it was a good idea to trade.
So I would echo SINJANS comments, but add NEVER look back and NEVER regret a decision. Simply enjoy what your Voigtlander will do!
Happy new toy!
P.S. How good is the Voigtlander?

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

I just got the Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2.0 II two weeks ago. I'm still getting used to how to shoot with it (my first MF only lens). But so far I absolutely love the build quality and the preciseness of the MF ring.

If the 125mm is built and performs similarly, I'm sure it's going to be a fun lens for you.

I think it's a good move. The VL will probably only continue to increase in price as I remember them being $600 cheaper than the Zeiss MP and that was a year ago. The voight is a better lens IMO as it controls CA far better and the bokeh is heavenly.

I totally understand the desire for such a rare and excellent lens... But given that when it does go up for sale it sells for far less than the Zeiss, and it doesn't actually perform better, I wouldn't have done it. I would have just offered about $1300 for it, have both for a while, then sell he one I liked least for more than $1300 later.

They are currently virtually equal in used values with the Voigt continuing to increase and the Zeiss stable for obvious reasons.

Hey John, I've been following this lens for awhile. A quick search here brings up some old threads. This is how good it is:

And it's a true Macro...

IMO you made an excellent move and a few years down the road when & if you decide to sell it you will see your monetary gain not to mention all the wonderful photos for keepsake memorys.

I think you'd be happy with either lens. I prefer the focal length of 100. The extra working distance and being a true macro are big perks, though.

I just wish Voigt would make the lens again....at the price they originally sold it for.

I only have one Voightlander lens that I purchased to compare against a Zeiss. I have the Color-Skopar 20mm. Its a very capable lens and fairs well against my Zeiss 21ZE (well not at the moment as thats away for servicing/cleaning). If the 125mm has a style to rival the Zeiss 100 then it must be a special lens indeed! Congrats.
